괴테( Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, 1749.8.28 ~ 1832.3.22. )
독일의 시인이면서, 극작가이며, 정치가이면서 과학자이며, 또한 문학가이고 자연연구가이다.
1. 가장 유능한 사람은 가장 배우기에 힘쓰는 사람이다.
The most competent person is the one who tries to learn most.
2. 가장( 家長 )이 확실하게 지배하는 가정에는 다른 데서 찾아 볼 수 없는 평화가 깃든다.
There is peace that cannot be found anywhere else in the family where the head of state is firmly in control.
3. 감정과 의지에서 나오지 않는 예술은 참된 예술이라고 할 수 없다.
Art that doesn't come out of emotion and will cannot be called true art.
4. 격언에 가로되, '머슴에겐 영웅이 없다'고 했다. 그 이유는 영웅은 영웅만이 알아주기 때문일 것이다. 그러나 머슴도 자기와 동등한 자라면 평가할 수 있을 것이다.
